The Toshakhana saga is again making headlines as recently, a Dubai-based businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor in the Emirates has revealed that he has bought the Toshakana gifts given to ex-prime minister Imran Khan by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.
Zahoor has claimed that Farah Gogi and Shahzad Akbar sold the expensive Graff wristwatch — worth at least Rs2 billion — to him, and he has evidence to back it.
In an affidavit, the businessman has listed four gifts he purchased from Farah — a close friend of Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, who was also embroiled in corruption cases recently.
Mr Zahoor is said to be an influential business personality and is apparently wanted by Norway, Switzerland, Turkiye and Pakistan since 2009-10 over various financial and other crimes.
Meanwhile, the former prime minister Imran Khan and other PTI leaders have strongly rebutted the claims of Zahoor and termed them a lie. Imran Khan has also announced to take legal action against the private channel, its anchor and Zahoor in the United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates.
Imran Khan said he bought gifts from Toshakhana under set parameters by paying the value of them and he has not done any illegal thing. He also questioned why the ECP is not taking action against former president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Yousaf Raza Gilani, who took expensive vehicles from the Toshakhana.
The political temperature is soaring in Pakistan the PTI chairman who had been protesting and demanding early elections and appointment of the Chief of Army Staff on merit now has to face the Toshkhana scandal again even after being disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
According to Khan, he has done consultation with his lawyer and he will file cases against the channel its anchor and Zahoor in London and the UAE. The dust on the issue will be clear once the issue is taken to the court of law else allegations and rebuttal from both the sides will continue to make headlines in the country.
