KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested six accused including husband, wife and son involved in drug trafficking in the Malir area of the metropolis.
According to sources, Malir police apprehended three family members involved in drug supply during a raid near Gharibabad. The accused include father, son and mother. More than three kilograms of hashish and mobile phones were recovered from the arrested suspects.
Sources said in another operation police arrested two accused involved in drug trafficking from the railway line in Landhi Sharafi Goth. More than one and a half kilograms of drugs and cash were recovered from the accused. The accused were involved in the sale of various types of drugs.
Meanwhile, Jamshed Quarters Police detained an accused involved in the murder of ASI Safeer Butt and recovered illegal weapons from his possession. The accused was arrested on a tip-off from the Baloch Para area. Unlicensed pistols and bullets were recovered from his possession. The accused murdered ASI Safeer Butt in 2011.
As many as 798 suspects were arrested by the Karachi police in separate operations carried out during the last week on the directives of AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon.
According to a Karachi police spokesperson, law enforcement personnel confiscated drugs worth millions of rupees as well as over 75 different illegal weapons from the possession of the arrested suspects.
The weapons were sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis. The confiscated drugs include 85 kilograms of hashish, 13 kilograms of opium, 72 grams of ice/crystal and 446 grams of heroin.
During the anti-crime operations, two encounters took place between the accused and the police. One accused was killed and four others were injured in the exchange of fire, the spokesperson informed.
