A lioness at the Karachi Zoo has given birth to three cubs, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) announced in a press release on Monday.
According to the KMC, the cubs are healthy and are being nursed by their mother. Zoo officials separated them from the male lion shortly after birth to ensure their safety. “A team of experts is taking good care of the cubs, and they will be moved to a regular enclosure once they reach eight weeks of age,” said an official.
Photos released by the zoo show the cubs thriving under their mother’s care. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab welcomed the cubs’ birth, reaffirming his commitment to upgrading the zoo’s facilities and bringing in more animals.
However, just last week, the zoo saw the loss of a 30-year-old Bengal tigress. KMC officials attributed her death to natural causes, noting that Bengal tigers typically live 18 to 20 years, making her lifespan unusually long.
