Indian media has revealed that Nargis Fakhri has not been in touch with her sister, Aliya Fakhri, for 20 years and only learned about the murder accusations through news reports.
According to a report by Firstpost on Wednesday, Aliya was arrested in the USA for her alleged involvement in the deaths of her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, and his friend, Anastasia Star Ettienne, in a fire in Queens, New York.
Despite the charges, Nargis has not publicly commented on the case. A source close to her stated that she had no prior knowledge of the incident. Aliya and Nargis’ mother denied the allegations, defending her daughter by saying, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.”
According to India Today, Nargis has been estranged from Aliya for over 20 years. A source revealed that Nargis learned about the tragedy through media reports, just like the rest of the public.
A witness at the scene of the crime shared that Aliya and Edward had an abusive relationship, which contributed to the deadly fire. The witness recalled, “She had told everyone before that she was going to burn his house down, that she was going to kill him. We just laughed it off,” as reported by various publications.
Authorities state that Aliya allegedly set fire to a two-story garage, leading to the victims’ deaths from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Aliya’s bail has been denied, and she faces charges of murder.
