According to an official document, the Rawalpindi administration has approved the launch of 102 electric buses across the city, covering an 84-kilometre area.

“The Punjab Mass Transit Authority will execute the project, with a completion timeline set for November 30, 2025,” the document stated.

The project is estimated to cost over Rs7 billion, with the Punjab government allocating Rs4.7 billion for its implementation.

Sources revealed that the public transport system will operate on 10 routes, aiming to provide residents with eco-friendly options.

A broader plan includes the introduction of 200 electric buses across various routes in the city.

During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, an agreement was reached with the Chinese government to curb environmental pollution and promote sustainable public transport. Following this, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a state-of-the-art transport project exclusively for Rawalpindi.

The initiative will include 200 electric buses operating within the city and its cantonment areas. The old GTS bus depot at Chohar Chowk will be revamped to accommodate 100 buses, while a modern terminal with 40 electric charging stations will be constructed at the Adamjee Road depot.

Route Details for the Service Include:

Route 1: Islamabad International Airport to Railway Station, covering key stops like GT Road, Kohinoor Mill, and Race Course.
Route 2: Railway Station to Chaklala Scheme Three via Saddar and Kacheri.
Route 3: T-Chowk to Kacheri Chowk, passing through DHA Phase Five, Bahria Phase Seven, and Ayub Park.
Route 4: Adiala Jail to Metro Station Saddar via Lal Kurti and Khawaja Corporation.
