LAHORE: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Punjab, third in Pakistan.
The latest case was reported in Mandi Bahauddin, and the infected person had recently returned from abroad. The NIH confirmed that the individual had deteriorated health and sought medical attention upon arrival in Pakistan.
Previously, there were two cases of monkeypox in Rawalpindi. The team at DHQ Hospital Mandi Bahauddin sent samples to NIH Islamabad for testing, which later confirmed the monkeypox infection.
It may be recalled that on April 25, the first case of monkeypox was confirmed in a 25-year-old man who had returned to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia. The relatives of the infected person were being screened, and they were advised to self-quarantine to avoid the virus’s spread.
Meanwhile, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Javed Akram has stated that the patient’s condition is now stable and out of danger. He added that the patient has been placed under home isolation, and they are testing the patient again from the lab of Punjab.
Currently, there are seven suspected cases of monkeypox in Punjab. It is essential to take precautionary measures and follow the necessary guidelines to avoid the virus’s spread.
