Following their elimination from the World Cup, Uruguay’s players expressed their displeasure with the refereeing of their 2-0 victory over Ghana.
Despite Uruguay’s win, South Korea’s late goal against Portugal knocked them out at the group stage of a World Cup for the first time in 20 years.
A huge argument between the players and the German referee, Daniel Siebert, came at the end of the match when Edinson Cavani was brought down in the box and the whole Uruguayan team called for a penalty. They’d had another penalty call go against them earlier in the game.
Jose Gimenez was particularly furious with the way the game panned out, with the Atletico Madrid defender lashing out to the camera that was focused on him.
“Bunch of thieves. They’re all a bunch of thieves, these sons of b****es Yes, record me, motherf***er,” Gimenez yelled.
Gimenez wasn’t the only player from Uruguay who was unhappy. Cavani shoved the VAR screen to the ground as he left the pitch and Luis Suarez shared a message on social media.
