BAHAWALPUR: In the past three days, at least 10 baby crocodiles have died under mysterious circumstances at the Bahawalpur Zoo.
According to the zoo administration, their bodies were found dead in a swamp. The caretaker claimed that crocodiles have died due to severe cold weather, while the administration said they died of suffocation.
It further stated that the bodies of the reptiles have been sent for a post-mortem examination so that the real reason behind the deaths could be determined soon.
The zoo’s veterinary officer, Dr Tariq told lack of care is not the reason for deaths, adding that the administration has sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination and the report will disclose the actual causes of death he added.
Meanwhile, the director-general of the Punjab Wildlife Department has taken the notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from concerned authorities within 48 hours.
