QUETTA: A 22-year-old student, identified as Faizan Jattak, was killed when officials of Eagle Squad of Balochistan Police opened fire on him after he did not stop his car at the checkpost at Quetta’s Sariab Road.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered on the complaint of victim’s cousin who was travelling with him in the car. As per details, the two men were going home when four Eagle Squad officials signalled them to stop.
“As soon as we travelled a bit ahead, the official started firing, leaving my cousin, Faizan, dead, while I was injured,” victim’s cousin added. The FIR was lodged against the four police officials under Sections 302 (murder), 324 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts done by several people in furtherance of common intention).
Initial examination of Jattak’s body showed a gunshot wound on his neck and back. Meanwhile, angry protesters blocked Sariab Road and chanted slogans against police for what they called “brutality”.
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry. In a tweet, Provincial government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani said he was “very saddened” over the firing incident which resulted in Jattak’s death.
“Top leadership of the police have taken notice of the incident and issued directions for an immediate inquiry. Justice will prevail,” the spokesperson said in a tweet.
