Karachi: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in several parts of Karachi to facilitate the final hook-up activity of a high-pressure gas pipeline associated with the K-IV water supply project.

According to an advisory issued by the utility, the re-routing work of the 20-inch diameter high-pressure gas pipeline on University Road, between NIPA Bridge and Essa Nagri DMS near Hassan Square, has been completed.

The final phase of the project will now require a planned gas shutdown during the night between 20 and 21 June 2026.

SSGC said the maintenance and hook-up work will be carried out from 10:00pm on Saturday until 10:00am on Sunday, during which gas supply will remain suspended in several localities.

The utility stated that all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal will be affected by the temporary shutdown. In addition, gas supply may also remain disrupted during the night in Karachi Central Prison, Aga Khan University Hospital, Liaquat National Hospital and Medicare Hospital.

SSGC said its teams would work continuously to complete the activity within the scheduled timeframe and restore gas supply as early as possible. The company added that the shutdown is necessary to safely integrate the newly re-routed pipeline section and ensure the reliability of the gas transmission network.

Consumers in the affected areas have been advised to take necessary precautions and make alternative arrangements where required. SSGC expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their cooperation during the essential infrastructure work.
