LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday hinted at closing all the educational institutions in the provincial capital for two days and work from home policy for offices, while hearing a case related to smog in the city. The remarks by the LHC came almost a month after it had already hinted at imposing a work-from-home (WFH) policy for 2 days a week amid the increasing problem of smog in the province.

Hearing the case today, the High Court declared that the Punjab government had failed to control Smog, saying that the situation was worsening with each day passing. Justice Shahid Karim remarked that Punjab government didn’t seem serious to meet the challenge of Smog, and urged to contact international experts in this regard.

The court also ordered demolition of the brick-kilns contaminating the atmosphere and confiscation and auction of the vehicles polluting the environment.
While expressing its concerns over the situation of smog in the city, the court ordered the environment department to amend the rules for the demolition of the brick-kilns.

He hinted that the court would impose work-from-home (WFH) policy for offices, and 2 days weekly off for schools if the provincial government couldn’t resolve the smog problem.
