Smart lockdowns imposed in various localities of Karachi

KARACHI: Law enforcement authorities (LEAs) and district administrations have imposed ‘smart lockdowns’ in various localities of Karachi, as a measure to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The lockdown started from 7 pm today (Thursday) and will remain effective till July 2. LEAs have sealed COVID-19 hotspots in 43 union councils of the metropolis and put water tankers and tents at entry and exit points of these areas to restrict any movement.
According to a notification issued by the Commissioner Karachi, anyone entering or exiting will have to wear a mask, the movement will be restricted and no private family get-togethers will be allowed.
Grocery stores and pharmacies will be open during specific times. No public transport or ride-hailing services will be allowed. No home delivery or take-away will be permitted from restaurants and fast-food joints.
Only one person from each household will be allowed outside to buy groceries or other essential items by showing their CNIC to officials from law enforcement agencies.
The notification also said that the government would try to provide rations to needy families in the areas using its own resources as well as through the help of charitable organisations.
