Sindh Police has launched a driving training school at the Saeedabad Police Training College to tackle the alarming rise in road accidents in Karachi.
According to Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, the initiative is part of a pilot project aimed at improving road safety through structured driving education.
The school will offer practical and theoretical training in three stages: classroom instruction, field driving, and computer-based education. The 18-hour program will cover operation of cars, motorcycles, and both light and heavy transport vehicles.
The IGP, accompanied by senior officers, visited the facility and reviewed its infrastructure, including classrooms and a computer lab. He announced plans to expand the program to Hyderabad, Larkana, and Khairpur, with future upgrades including driving simulators.
IGP Memon emphasized that promoting safe driving is a top priority and essential for public safety. He stated that trained drivers are key to reducing accidents and protecting lives across Sindh.
It should be noted that data from hospitals reveal that in 2024 alone, road accidents involving heavy vehicles such as dumpers and water tankers caused nearly 500 deaths and injured 4,879 people. A tragic incident last month in Korangi, where a water tanker fatally struck a woman and injured her husband, sparked public outrage.
