KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that businesses across the province will remain closed on Fridays and Sundays amid a surge in the COVID-19 cases.
A notification issued by the Sindh Home Department on Monday said food items, medical stores, dairy shops, and other businesses that fall under essential services will be exempted from the restriction.
“Keeping in view the feedback from field formations on implementation of two safe days per week where different business within same locality/premises are observing different safe days in a week and therefore, the need to avoid confusion and implementation issue the two days Friday and Sunday are declared as safe days for all businesses except essential services,” the notification added.
The government of Sindh had earlier issued a notification ordering marriage halls and all business centers to be closed by 8 pm, effective from April 6, 2021. The Sindh province on Monday reported only 308 cases of infection and one death during the past 24 hours.
According to the routine daily COVID-19 numbers shared by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the province reported a single death during the entire day, bringing the overall fatalities from the virus to 4,510.
“The number of people who got affected from COVID-19 so far stands at 266,925,” Murad Ali Shah said adding that currently, 5,518 active Covid-19 patients are present in the province.
The chief minister further said that 267 patients are said to be in critical condition while 32 are on ventilators. “Out of the total reported cases in Sindh today, 186 belong to Karachi,” he said.
