KARACHI: The Sindh government has imposed a micro smart lockdown in various areas of Karachi’s district central for two weeks.
According to a notification issued on Sunday, the deputy commissioner put different areas of Gulberg Town, North Karachi, Liaquatabad Town and North Nazimabad under micro-smart lockdown from 30th of May to 13th of June.
“Pursuant to the recommendations of the district health officer regarding the emerging hotspots with respect to the spread of COVID-19 in various areas of the district, a second wave of the COVID-19, is becoming imminent to spread, which may lead to a potential public health emergency for the general public,” it added.
At least six more patients of the coronavirus died during the past 24 hours in Sindh, lifting the provincial death toll to 5,020 on Sunday.
In a daily statement on the Covid-19 situation, Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah said 913 more people were diagnosed with the COVID-19 during the same period, raising the tally of such patients in the province to 317,648. The chief minister said that out of the fresh 913 cases, 409 were reported from Karachi.
Pakistan has reported 56 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 918,936. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 20,736.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 2,697 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths and cases followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Till now 9,982 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 5,014 in Sindh, 4,060 in KP, 757 in Islamabad, 540 in Azad Kashmir, 276 in Balochistan, and 107 in GB.
