KARACHI: The Sindh education department has given the green signal for online classes to be held in public schools across the province.
According to a notification from the Sindh education department, “Online classes will be held for grades 6-12.”
The online classes will be launched with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Microsoft, with 75 masters trainers to train teachers regarding holding online classes, the notification read.
IT experts have been hired to conduct the online classes, it added. The secretary education issued directives for all district directors to provide data of teachers and students by June 17.
On Tuesday, a meeting of the Sindh education department’s steering committee under provincial minister Saeed Ghani had decided that teaching would not be permitted in any public or private educational institutions in Sindh due to growing threats of COVID-19.
While private educational institutions were allowed to start online education. All of these schools must fully comply with COVID-19 SOPs, Sindh Education Minister Ghani had added.
The education minister had said there no final decision had been reached yet on the reopening of schools in the province as coronavirus cases continued to mount across the country.
Ghani had said that the private and government schools would be the last places to be reopened in the province. Parents would not send children to schools in the current situation, he added.
On June 3, private Schools Action Committee head Pervez Haroon had announced the reopening of all private educational institutes from June 15.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi in Karachi Press Club he said, “We plan to open schools in three phases from June 15.” He also assured that SOPs would be followed in all institutions as directed by the government.
Pervez Haroon had informed that the classes for grades six to 10 will be resumed in the first phase – starting from June 15. “Classes for the students of grades three to five will then be resumed from July 1, and for the remaining students from July 10 in the third phase,” he added.
