The Sindh Environment Department has imposed a complete ban on all types of plastic bags in the province from June 15, and a notification has been issued.

According to details, the ban has been imposed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Coastal Development on all kinds of plastic shopping bags.

The ban will also apply to non-degradable, oxo-degradable, black, and recycled plastic bags. According to the notification, after the partial ban in 2019, a complete ban has now been imposed under an amendment to the Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules 2014.

According to the Sindh Environment Department, only eco-friendly bags will be allowed. The department stated that a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted regarding the use of plastic bags, as plastic bags are a major cause of environmental destruction.

The plastic bag ban in Sindh is a crucial step toward protecting the environment and public health. Plastic bags are one of the leading causes of pollution, clogging drains, contributing to urban flooding, and harming wildlife, especially in coastal areas.

By eliminating non-degradable and recycled plastic bags, the ban can reduce plastic waste and its long-term environmental damage. It also encourages the use of sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives, promoting a culture of environmental responsibility. If properly enforced, the ban can lead to cleaner cities, improved drainage systems, and a healthier ecosystem for future generations in Sindh.
