The Government of Sindh has decided to introduce exclusive bus routes under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and launch a new People’s Bus Service route connecting Larkana and Qambar.

The decisions were made during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, TransKarachi CEO Zubair Channa, and other relevant officials.

Participants reviewed the progress, operational performance, and future strategy of ongoing and proposed public transport projects across the province. The meeting also assessed the operations of double-decker buses, electric vehicle (EV) taxis, EV buses, the People’s Bus Service, the Green Line BRT, and the Orange Line BRT.

Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government plans to introduce exclusive bus routes under the PPP model, under which selected routes will be offered to private companies and investors for operation.

He said these routes will be served by modern, air-conditioned electric buses, with operating rights awarded through auctions or other competitive bidding processes. The initiative aims to provide safe, high-quality, and modern transport services while encouraging private sector investment.

The senior minister also directed officials to launch the Larkana–Qambar People’s Bus Service at the earliest, noting that the new route would benefit thousands of commuters and enhance trade and connectivity between the two districts.

He instructed the relevant authorities to complete all administrative and operational arrangements for the new route without delay.

During the meeting, officials informed participants that consultations with various stakeholders on the EV taxi project are ongoing and that the initiative is progressing rapidly.

Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that an environmentally friendly EV taxi service will soon be launched in Karachi, providing residents with modern, comfortable, and reliable transport while helping reduce environmental pollution.

He further directed officials to complete route planning and administrative preparations for additional double-decker buses expected to arrive in Karachi soon, so they can be deployed without delay.

The minister noted that the daily ridership of the Green Line BRT has increased from 50,000 to 81,000 passengers, while the Orange Line BRT has grown from 1,800 to 9,800 daily passengers, describing the figures as a strong indicator of growing public confidence in the services.

He added that the Pink Bus Service, reserved for women on the Green Line BRT, has provided a safe and convenient travel option and has received an overwhelmingly positive response, particularly from female commuters.

Sharjeel Inam Memon also took notice of the misuse of Pink Scooties, directing that men should immediately refrain from riding the scooters, which are designated for women. He warned that legal action would be taken against violators.

He instructed the relevant authorities to immediately impound any Pink Scooties found being used by men and to take strict action against anyone who changes the scooters’ pink color or alters their appearance through wrapping.

Concluding the meeting, the senior minister reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to completing all ongoing and proposed transport projects on schedule to provide the public with modern, safe, environmentally friendly, and high-quality transportation services.
