KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has voiced concern over the deteriorating state of Karachi, urging authorities to prioritize the city’s long-overdue infrastructure and development needs.
Speaking during a recent visit to Karachi after several months, Afridi said he was disappointed to see little improvement in the city’s condition despite its vital contribution to Pakistan’s economy.
“I was visiting the Korangi area. We generate business worth billions of rupees, and this city provides employment to millions of people, yet I feel ashamed to see the condition of Karachi,” he said.
Afridi said he had hoped to witness visible development upon returning to the city but found the situation largely unchanged.
He also pointed to prolonged construction work in Korangi, SITE Industrial Area and along University Road, saying these areas had remained under development for years. He urged the relevant authorities to accelerate infrastructure projects and take practical steps to improve civic conditions.
“I hope Karachi will improve,” the former cricketer added.
