ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday accepted an appeal filed by the family of Dua Zehra that sought interim relief, recovery of the teenager, and the appointment of a new medical board to determine her age.
A three-member bench of SC will hear the plea of Dua Zehra’s father on Thursday. Last week, Dua Zehra’s father challenged the Sindh High Court’s verdict about the case in the highest judicial forum of the country.
The high court’s decision on June 08, gave the right to the Karachi-based teenage girl to decide whether she wanted to live with her parents or go with her husband. The SHC gave its verdict based on Dua Zehra’s statement and the medical test, according to the petition.
“Dua Zehra’s age has been described as 17 years in the medical report, while according to the NADRA record and educational certificates her age is 14 years,” the father pleaded.
The SHC, in its written verdict, observed that no evidence was found that the girl had been abducted and restrained authorities concerned from registering abduction cases.
“I got married of my own free will. No one kidnapped me; I want to go with my husband Zaheer and do not wish to see my parents,” Zehra was quoted as saying in a recorded statement under oath before the SHC.
The SHC had also disposed of the petition filed by the parents for the alleged abduction of the teenage girl.
