Alisha Jameel is a courageous Karachi teenage girl who drives a rickshaw to meet her family expenses.
In an exclusive talk with MM News, the 17-year-old said that she was studying when suddenly her father fell ill and the family’s financial position started getting worse, so she quit studying to work and earn for the family. Alishba said that they are six sisters and have no brother. She is the youngest one.
“We had our own home but after my father’s illness we sold it, some of the money was spent on his treatment and by the rest, we bought this rickshaw,” she said. She further said that now they are living on rent and paying Rs.15000 rent per month.
To a question, she said that it is not easy for a girl to drive a rickshaw in this society, but she is compelled to do so. “There is every kind of people in the society, good and bad,” she said.
She said that sometimes your rickshaw breaks down and for a female, it is hard to fix it. The teenager said that she gives service to female passengers only, however, when men are with families I also give them a ride.
She said that when her father was alive, she used to run the rickshaw in the entire city but after his death now she run it only in her locality.
She said that when her father was alive and healthy, her parents used to fulfill all her wishes, but now the condition is very tough. “It is difficult to drive a rickshaw I wish to have a car to drive,” she added.
Answering a question she said that she appeals to the people to help them, especially in paying their home rent, because it is difficult to pay for them.
Alisha said that after her video went viral on social media many people contact her for help, but so for no one has practically helped her.
“life is very tough, like a broken vehicle which needs a push to run, we are also living a life by pushing it,” she concluded.
