Russia has successfully tested its new ‘Sarmat ICBM’ intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
According to a foreign news agency, the commander of Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces, Sergey Karakaev, briefed President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday regarding the successful test.
President Putin stated that Russia is expected to formally induct the Sarmat missile into military service by the end of this year.
He described Sarmat as the “world’s most powerful” nuclear missile, claiming it is capable of striking targets thousands of miles away in the United States and Europe.
In a statement broadcast on Russian television, Putin said the missile’s warhead capacity is four times greater than any comparable system in Western countries, and added that its range exceeds 35,000 kilometres.
