ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal were involved in an exchange of words.
The nomination papers have were being scrutinised by the National Assembly Secretary for the election of the Leader of the House to elect a new prime minister which is expected to be held tomorrow. Shah Mahmood Qureshi is the prime ministerial candidate from PTI while Shahbaz Sharif will be the PML-N candidate from the united opposition.
During the submission of nomination papers, Qureshi and Ahsan Iqbal had a bitter exchange of words. “You are no longer the foreign minister,” Ahsan can be heard telling Qureshi who responded aggressively saying, “You are not a candidate, please get out of the room”.
Meanwhile, the nomination papers of joint opposition candidate Shehbaz Shari were approved after the PTI’s objections were set aside by the NA Secretary.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s counsel Babar Awan raised objections over the nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif, which were set aside by the NA official. A clash between the PTI leaders and NA staff over accepting Sharif’s nomination papers.
Babar Awan in his objection over the nomination of Shehbaz Sharif said that the candidate is nominated in corruption cases thus he is ineligible for the office of the PM. He said were a number of cases pending against Shehbaz Sharif which cannot be overlook.
A delegation of the united opposition also reached the office of the acting National Assembly speaker where the nomination papers were being scrutinised. The raising of objection led to a heated exchange of words between both sides.
