ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fragile energy supply chain received another boost as the Qatari LNG carrier Fouirat successfully crossed the sensitive Strait of Hormuz and entered Pakistani maritime waters, officials said on Tuesday.

The LNG vessel is expected to berth at the Engro LNG Terminal either today (Tuesday) or tomorrow (Wednesday), May 26–27, 2026, according to energy sector sources.

Senior officials of the Petroleum Division confirmed that another LNG shipment is also expected to arrive within the next few days and will dock at the Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited (PGPCL) terminal.

The latest development highlights Islamabad’s efforts to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies amid rising summer electricity demand and heightened geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region.

The arrival of Fouirat marks the third consecutive LNG cargo from Qatar in less than two weeks, reflecting Pakistan’s continued reliance on long-term LNG agreements with Doha.

Earlier, on May 15, the LNG carrier Mehzem, carrying approximately 160,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, docked at the PGPCL Terminal 12 at Port Qasim. Two days prior, on May 13, the Q-Flex LNG vessel Al Kharaityat arrived at the Engro terminal.

Energy officials noted that the steady inflow of LNG shipments underscores Pakistan’s dependence on Qatar amid volatile global spot market prices, driven by geopolitical uncertainty, shipping risks, and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
