LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a significant step toward modernizing property transactions by passing the Registration Act 2026, which makes biometric verification mandatory for obtaining property documents.

Approved by the Punjab Assembly on Thursday, the bill amends the century-old Registration Act of 1908 and has now been forwarded to the Governor of Punjab for final assent.

The new law, once enacted, will require biometric authentication for all individuals and items involved in property registration, aiming to eliminate fraud and ensure transparency.

Additionally, the legislation mandates the Punjab Land Record Authority to establish a comprehensive electronic record system to digitize land data and streamline future transactions.
