A sensational rumor circulating on social media caused widespread concern, claiming that the Punjab government had imposed a complete ban across the province on the preparation, distribution, and serving of food at funerals.

The rumors further alleged that district administrations had been instructed to enforce the ban and take action against violators. However, the Punjab government has categorically rejected these claims, declaring them to be fake news.

Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bukhari issued a brief but clear statement on social media, stating that the Punjab government has not imposed any ban on preparing or serving food at funerals.

She termed the reports false and baseless and urged the public not to believe unverified information or contribute to the spread of rumors.

Officials clarified that the rumor was not based on any official notification or government policy and was merely circulating on social media, causing unnecessary public anxiety.

The government emphasized that its priority is to dispel misunderstandings and prevent the further spread of unverified content.

Authorities further advised citizens to rely only on statements issued through official channels and to refrain from sharing rumors. Serving food to guests at funerals remains a long-standing cultural tradition in Pakistan, and no government restriction has been imposed on this practice.

The incident once again highlights the power and danger of fake news on social media, which has the potential to create confusion and unrest within society.
