The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has banned the issuance of informal or handwritten receipts by hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and marriage halls.

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has banned the issuance of informal or handwritten receipts by hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and marriage halls, making the use of its Electronic Invoice Management System (EIMS) mandatory for businesses covered by the order.

According to a notification issued by the PRA, businesses are required to issue receipts through the EIMS.

Those failing to issue invoices through the system could face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million.

The authority has also advised customers to ask for PRA-verified bills when visiting restaurants, hotels and other relevant businesses to ensure that applicable taxes are properly recorded and deposited.

A PRA spokesperson said businesses that repeatedly violate the rules could face stricter action, including sealing of their premises for up to one month.

The authority urged businesses to comply with the invoicing requirements and customers to ensure they receive proper, system-generated receipts for their purchases.
