ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fawad Chaudhry says he is shocked at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s willingness to hold talks with India.
His comments came after media reports that PM Shehbaz Sharif, in an interview to Al Arabiya news channel, said Pakistan had learnt its lesson after three wars with India and stressed that it wanted peace, urging Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sit down and hold serious and sincere talks to resolve burning issues, including Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter, Fawad Chaudhry said “our stand was that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi must reverse constitutional position of Kashmir to its original, only then Pakistan would negotiate. “Begging for talks is not Pakistan’s policy we strongly reject this approach and Shehbaz Sharif cannot be allowed to sell Kashmir”, he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir was administered by India as a state from 1952 to October 2019, and Article 370 conferred on it the power to have a separate constitution, a state flag, and autonomy of internal administration.

However, on August 5, 2019, the government of India issued a Presidential Order superseding the 1954 order, and making all the provisions of the Indian constitution applicable to Jammu and Kashmir. The order was based on the resolution passed in both houses of India’s parliament with two-thirds majority. A further order on 6 August made all the clauses of Article 370 except clause 1 to be inoperative.
