– Unauthorized Facility Substitution: The apex court explicitly mandated Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Sector H-8 for evaluation and continuous care until September 16. Authorities instead executed a secretive late-night diversion to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
– Bypassing Sub-Jail Framework & Hospitalization: The court directed that the designated private facility be declared a sub-jail where Khan would remain admitted. Authorities instead subjected the former premier to a brief, four-hour check-up at PIMS before returning him to Adiala Jail around 05:00 AM.
– Exclusion of Personal Physician: The August 18 order explicitly authorized Khan’s personal physicians, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousaf, to be associated with all examination and treatment procedures. Personal accounts from Dr. Uzma Khan confirmed that Dr. Faisal Sultan was separated from the process at Adiala Jail and barred from participating in or witnessing the medical evaluation.
– Denial of Extended Rights: The directives mandated structured family visitations, restricted telephone contact with his sons, and the provision of unredacted historical medical records. The brief overnight operation left these extended rights entirely unfulfilled, with Khan reporting continued human isolation and torture.
Scrutiny Shifts to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi
As the legal team prepares to press for an immediate hearing next week, legal observers are closely watching how Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi responds to the contempt filing.
The developments have drawn comparisons to past judicial actions, as observers recall that CJP Afridi previously issued a contempt of court notice to Imran Khan over alleged violations of the apex court’s May 25, 2022 order concerning political rallies in the capital.
