ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is introducing changes to its payment system to make financial assistance more accessible and transparent for eligible women. The updated system aims to simplify the process of receiving payments and improve accountability among banks and their authorised agents.
According to BISP Additional Secretary Dr Ismat Nawaz, payments will continue to be distributed through authorised agents of partner banks, as bank branches are not readily accessible in every part of the country.
She explained that banks are accountable to BISP, while payment agents are answerable to their respective banks.
Under the interoperability feature, eligible beneficiaries are expected to have greater flexibility in accessing their financial assistance through participating banks. The initiative is intended to make payments more convenient and address complaints related to unauthorised deductions.
How Much Financial Assistance Do Beneficiaries Receive?
According to the information provided, eligible BISP families receive financial assistance of Rs14,500 every three months. The programme aims to support low-income households and help them cope with rising living costs.
Smartphone Not Mandatory for Digital Wallet
Another key feature of the new system is that beneficiaries do not necessarily need a smartphone to access the digital wallet facility. Eligible women will also be able to use basic keypad mobile phones to benefit from the service.
The digital wallet initiative is part of the programme’s broader efforts to modernise payment delivery and make financial assistance easier to access.
Established in 2008, BISP has introduced various changes to its operations over the years. The newly introduced Social Protection Wallet is specifically intended for eligible women enrolled in the programme, with the aim of providing a more convenient way to receive financial assistance.
Beneficiaries are advised to consult BISP’s official channels for confirmation of payment procedures, participating banks, digital wallet activation and the latest eligibility requirements.
