KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the week on a positive note Monday morning, shrugging off global oil market anxieties triggered by US President Donald Trump’s Tuesday deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

At the opening bell, the benchmark KSE-100 index gained 841 points, or 0.56 per cent, to trade at 151,239.93. Broader indices followed suit: the All-Share Index rose 435 points (0.48pc), while the KSE-30 and KMI-30 climbed 0.64pc each. The BKTI index also advanced 0.50pc.

Market breadth reflected investor confidence, with 170 scrips advancing, 74 declining and 321 unchanged. Trading volume stood at over 7.1 million shares, with a value of Rs404 million across 6,277 trades.

The automobile assemblers’ board showed mixed fortunes. Atlas Honda Ltd slipped Rs35.95 to Rs1,499, while Millat Tractors shed Rs6.06. In contrast, Sazgar Engineering surged Rs12.44 to Rs1,617.99 on strong turnover, while Hinopak Motor and Honda Atlas Cars posted modest gains.

The upbeat sentiment at the bourse contrasted sharply with global energy markets, where crude prices spiked amid fears of supply disruption. Analysts noted that while international investors remain fixated on geopolitical risks, local traders appear focused on corporate earnings and sectoral resilience.
