ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has asserted that the government has no doubt that the Pakistan Stock Exchange attack in Karachi was perpetrated by India.
Addressing the National Assembly today (Tuesday), the Prime Minister said, “We have no doubt this was done by India to destabilize Pakistan.”
Quoting the example of Mumbai attack, PM Imran said that the terrorists wanted to do the same in Karachi, however, the timely action by the security forces thwart the attack.
He also lauded the performance of the security forces for thwarting the attack. He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the attack and termed them as ‘Heroes of Pakistan.”
PM Imran further said, “Our agencies were on high alert. The Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) preempted at least four major attempts of terrorism and two of them were around Islamabad,” adding, “We were fully prepared. This was a huge win for us.”
‘Budget 2020-21’
Commenting on the federal budget 2020-21, PM Imran thanked his team and coalition party for their efforts over the passage of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The premier further said, “if you had watched TV you would have thought it was our last day,” he said, referring to fears the budget would not be passed.
He also said, “It was a difficult budget, because the government had to revise its revenue target from Rs5,000 billion to Rs3,900,” adding, “As soon as Covid-19 came, it affected the economy, so a direct consequence was that our target had to be revised to Rs3,900 billion and we had a Rs1 trillion shortfall.”
He also praised his team for not imposing a complete lockdown and said, “We did not go for a sweeping lockdown that we were being pressured into enforcing.”
“Alhamdulillah we didn’t succumb to the pressure; the world has accepted that smart lockdowns are the only way to combat the virus,” the permier added.
The Prime Minister lauded Special Assistant Sania Nishtar and her team for distributing emergency cash among the people. In this regard, PM Imran said that there was no other example of helping poor in a country with an informal economy.
