KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) led by Mustafa Kamal on Friday ended its six-day long sit-in against the Sindh Local Government Act after successful negotiations against the provincial government.
The PSP had announced to stage a sit-in against the Sindh Local Government Act 2021 and were camped near the Fawara Chowk located in Saddar area since January 29. The party eventually ended the protest sit-in after successful negotiations with the provincial government for amendments in the law.
Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah arrived at the PSP sit-in venue in Karachi and addressed the party’s workers. He announced that “eventually Mustafa Kamal has won” and the Sindh government has agreed on PSP’s demand in connection with local government law.
Nasir Shah said that all demands of PSP chief Mustafa Kamal have been accepted. The Sindh government is considering all recommendations of PSP and other political parties for amendments in Sindh LG law, he added.
Mustafa Kamal said the Sindh government will go ahead with amendments. He added that a session of the Sindh Assembly will be summoned on February 11 to 18. “I have been informed by Nasir Shah that amendments will be done in the Local Government Act and it will be presented in the provincial assembly,” he added.
Kamal said that he has not ended the sit-i but has decided to postpone it till February 18. He said that the government has agreed to finalise legislate the LG law this month. He thanked the Sindh government for accepting the demands of PSP.
According to the sources, the Sindh government and PSP have agreed on provincial finance commission but will hold dialogue to continue the Metropolitan Corporation as city government.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Jamaat-e-Islamic had also staged a sit-in outside Sindh Assembly on Local Government Act but which was called off after nearly one month in Karachi after negotiations with the Sindh government,
