Residents of Punjab Chowrangi, Karachi, staged a sit-in late last night to protest against prolonged electricity load-shedding, resulting in severe traffic jams on Defence Road and surrounding areas.
Long queues of freight vehicles and tankers headed to Karachi Port have formed, creating major difficulties for early morning commuters. Significant congestion has also been reported at Qayyumabad Chowrangi and the KPT Bridge, causing serious inconvenience to those traveling from Korangi.
Traffic queues continue to grow, with the Jam Sadiq Bridge now also affected. Defence Mor, Akhtar Colony, and nearby areas are completely closed due to the gridlock.
It should be noted that sit-ins on main Karachi roads against prolonged electricity outages have become the order of the day in the port city. Every day, the city witnesses such protests, and as a result, a severe traffic jam; however, the government has no permanent solution to the issue, as the country has been facing an energy crisis for a long time.
