Prince Andrew has announced he will no longer use his titles and honors, most notably the Duke of York title, and other associated honors (like membership in the Order of the Garter). This decision was made in consultation with King Charles.
He stopped all public duties and engagements in 2019 following a controversial interview regarding his association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Following a recent discussion with King Charles III, Andrew announced on October 17, 2025, that he will no longer use his remaining titles or honors to avoid being a distraction from the monarchy’s work.
He is no longer a working member of the royal family and has stepped back from public life entirely.
This includes no longer using the titles of Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron of Killyleagh.
However, he remains a prince, as that title was conferred on him at birth as the son of the monarch (Queen Elizabeth II), not as a bestowed honour later in life, and legally stripping him of that status would require an Act of Parliament.

He stopped using the style “His Royal Highness” in an official capacity in 2022, though he technically retains the title privately.
All of his military titles and royal patronages were returned to the Queen in 2022 and have since been redistributed to other working royals.
He remains eighth in line to the throne.
His public life is effectively over, and he is not expected to appear at major royal family events, such as the annual Christmas celebrations at Sandringham.
He continues to live in the Royal Lodge in Windsor, a property he holds a long-term lease on from the Crown Estate.
Prince Andrew has consistently denied all accusations against him, reiterating his denial in the statement announcing the relinquishment of his titles.
