The Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme has arrived in Sindh, with the distribution to university students set to begin on Thursday in Karachi.
According to media sources, the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has selected NED University as the first venue for distribution in Sindh, where a total of 1,436 laptops will be handed out in phases.
This includes undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students. Distribution at other public universities across Karachi and Sindh is expected to start next month.
Federal Minister for Education, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, will attend the laptop distribution ceremony at NED University on Thursday.
NED University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail, stated, “On Thursday, laptops will be distributed to 32 students enrolled in undergraduate programmes. NED University is the first university in Sindh to participate in Phase 4 of the laptop distribution.”
The Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme 4 was launched at the end of October by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, it took three months for the programme to reach Karachi, with student applications requested in mid-2025.
Under this scheme, 100,000 laptops are planned to be distributed nationwide, with over 16,000 laptops allocated for students in Sindh, according to HEC sources.
