ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday said that the government would maintain the prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight.
In a press conference, he said that the international oil prices are on an uptrend due to which the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) sought an increase in domestic rates of petroleum products, however, the government rejected the increase.
The price of petrol will remain unchanged at Rs214.8 per liter while diesel will be sold at Rs227.80 per liter till mid-January 2023.
Kerosene oil will be sold at Rs171.83 per liter while light diesel oil will be sold at Rs169 per liter.
“Kerosene is used by low-income segment for heating needs,” Dar said.
Earlier, the market had assumed that the cost of petroleum products would remain unchanged.
The Finance Minister Ishaq Dar slashed the petroleum prices on December 15 by Rs.10 and the price of diesel by Rs.7.5 per liter.
Moreover, the minister further said that the deadline for filing tax returns, which was originally today, had been extended by 15 days till Dec 15. He urged the nation to take advantage of this opportunity and file their tax returns at the earliest.
