Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has decided to appoint provincial party president Amjad Hussain Advocate as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to PPP Gilgit-Baltistan Information Secretary Sadia Danish, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari contacted Amjad Advocate via telephone and issued necessary instructions regarding the formation of the government.
She said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also directed him to ensure the protection of citizens’ constitutional, democratic, and economic rights, along with their effective implementation.
Meanwhile, a key consultative meeting was held between the local leadership of the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Gilgit-Baltistan, during which both parties agreed to form a new government through political cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the PPP, under the proposed arrangement, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will belong to the PPP, while the offices of Governor and Leader of the Opposition in the assembly will be given to the PML-N. Under the agreement, the post of Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly will also go to the PML-N.
Reports said that the final decision regarding the Chief Minister and Speaker nominations will be made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday in Islamabad.
