Who doesn’t love Taylor Sheridan’s Western dramas? His character-driven stories have long been behind the Paramount+ paywall, but more of his shows are now appearing on rival platforms.
The latest is the acclaimed Western series Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which is set to arrive on Netflix starting June 1, expanding its reach to audiences in the United States, the United Kingdom, and several international regions.
Created by Chad Feehan and executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, the series stars David Oyelowo in the lead role. He portrays Bass Reeves, widely recognized as the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River.

The show traces Reeves’ remarkable journey from his early life to becoming a legendary lawman, credited with making over 3,000 arrests during his career.
Alongside his professional achievements, the series also explores the personal struggles and moral dilemmas he faced while enforcing the law in the American frontier.
Initially envisioned as a spin-off of 1883, the project was later developed into a standalone story. The narrative draws inspiration from Sidney Thompson’s Bass Reeves Trilogy, bringing historical events to life with a dramatic lens.
With its Netflix debut, the series is expected to reach a wider global audience and further cement its place among modern Western hits.
