Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s determination to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan while addressing a ceremony at the 7th Maritime Security Workshop at Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore on Friday.
According to a report by Pak Observer, he highlighted the heavy toll terrorism has taken on the country, with 80,000 lives lost and economic losses amounting to billions of dollars during the fight against the menace.
PM Shehbaz Sharif noted that the previous PML-N government had effectively eradicated terrorism in 2018, but its resurgence demands renewed efforts. He vowed not to rest until terrorism is completely wiped out, emphasizing the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel to ensure national security, which, he said, would not go in vain.
Discussing Pakistan Navy’s role, the Prime Minister praised its officers and sailors for their commitment and capability to counter diverse threats, calling it a formidable force safeguarding maritime security. He stressed the importance of the blue economy for Pakistan’s progress, highlighting Navy’s role in harnessing marine resources and China’s support in developing the maritime sector.
Shehbaz Sharif also underscored the strategic importance of Gwadar Port as a cornerstone for regional trade and connectivity, critical to Pakistan’s economic future. He called for a professional approach in managing port trust activities and pledged to re-establish the National Shipping Corporation to meet commercial needs.
He concluded by emphasizing the need to fully utilize Pakistan’s talent and resources to overcome debt and achieve prosperity, reaffirming his government’s resolve to secure the nation’s future through robust economic and security measures.
