For the first time in Pakistan’s history, a Hindu man, Rajender Meghwar, has been appointed to the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). Meghwar has started his duties as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Faisalabad, where he has been posted to the Gulberg Police.
A native of Badin, an underdeveloped region in Sindh, Meghwar joined the police force after successfully passing the Civil Services Examination (CSS). Expressing his happiness at fulfilling his dream, he shared that working in the police allows him to help his community in ways other departments couldn’t directly.
Meghwar believes that being part of the police force allows him to address people’s issues on the ground, which would be difficult to do in other roles.
Police officials are also optimistic about his appointment, viewing it as a positive step for maintaining law and order and addressing the concerns of minorities. They believe that Meghwar’s presence will enhance inclusivity within the police force.
Additionally, Roopmati, a woman from a minority community in Rahim Yar Khan, has also passed the CSS exam. She desires to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Pakistan’s positive image globally.
