In a massive move to crush rising fuel costs and pollution, the federal government has officially greenlit the Prime Minister’s Electric Bike and Rickshaw Scheme 2026 under the ambitious PAVE program.
Speaking exclusively to the media, Hamad Ali Mansoor, CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), revealed that the government is putting its money where its mouth is, allocating a staggering Rs 100 billion for the project over the next five years.
For this fiscal year alone, PM Shehbaz Sharif has set aside Rs 9 billion to get Pakistanis moving on green energy.
The Big Discounts: What’s in it for you?
The government is making EVs cheaper than traditional petrol bikes. Here is the breakdown of the “cash-back” style subsidies.
- Electric Motorcycles: A flat Rs 80,000 subsidy per bike.
- Electric Rickshaws: A massive Rs 400,000 subsidy per unit.
EV bikes under this scheme are reportedly Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 cheaper than any other brand currently available in the open market.
| Category | Subsidy Amount | Target (Current Year) |
| Electric Bike | Rs 80,000 | 116,000 Units |
| Electric Rickshaw | Rs 400,000 | Part of PAVE Phase 1 |
| Budget | Rs 9 Billion | For 2026 Fiscal Year |
Target & Deadlines
The EDB is moving at lightning speed to hit its targets.
- Phase 1 Goal: Distribute 76,000 motorcycles by June 2026.
- Total Annual Target: A total of 116,000 electric bikes will be subsidized within this year.
This initiative isn’t just about saving the environment; it’s a direct attack on the “inflation monster” that has made petrol commuting unaffordable for the common man. By slashing the upfront cost, the PAVE program aims to put an electric vehicle in every middle-class household.
