PM Shehbaz Sharif, who himself been accused of massive corruption and money laundering, won a major relief last month when the accountability watchdog NAB approved shutting down investigation into two cases against him following amendments introduced in relevant laws. In 2019, NAB started an investigation into the transfer of 14,400 canals of government land in Bahawalpur. NAB Multan sent a questionnaire and summon notice to former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Terming corruption as a major national issue, the Prime Minister said instead of merely using it for political sloganeering and point scoring, serious efforts should be made for its eradication.

Calling corruption a major impediment to Pakistan’s progress, he said it led to the country’s instability by destroying its economy as well as the administrative structure.
