The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday dismissed a petition against Aurat March, terming it inadmissible. A private TV channel reported.
Citizen Azam Ali Jutt had filed the petition in the Lahore High Court, praying the court to issue directives to concerned authorities for banning the women’s march in the provincial capital.
LHC’s Justice Shahid Karim dismissed the petition terming it inadmissible.
It is pertinent to mention that organizers of the Aurat March have announced to hold the event from Lahore Press Club to Mall Road on March 8.
Aurat March was started in 2018 in Pakistan by members of Women Democratic Front (a socialist-feminist organization), other organizations like Women’s Action Forum (Women’s rights organization), Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls Alliance, Young Teachers Association, Home-Based Women also support this movement.
The Aurat March orchestrates walks and demonstrations across various cities in the country, aiming to spotlight women’s rights. Nevertheless, the movement faces opposition from a segment of society, primarily the religious class, due to objectionable slogans. Some critics label the movement as a conspiracy orchestrated by foreign elements working against Islam and Pakistan.
