Pakistan Railways has announced the launch of a state-of-the-art, fully digitalized new business train. This high-tech train will officially begin operations from Lahore on July 19, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurating the service.
This new service will comprise 28 modern coaches, equipped with free Wi-Fi, an international-standard dining car, and other digital facilities to provide passengers with a comfortable, safe, and modern travel experience.
This initiative is part of efforts to modernize the overall railway system, which includes not only modern coaches but also a digital ticketing system, station upgrades, and improved onboard services. The aim of these reforms is not only to enhance passenger convenience but also to improve the performance and revenue of Pakistan Railways.
In addition, Pakistan Railways has planned to outsource various services, including the commercial management of passenger trains. A senior official from the Ministry of Railways told the state news agency APP that over the past three years, Pakistan Railways has earned 3.959 billion rupees from brake and luggage vans.
He stated that these services were operated either directly by the railway or outsourced to private contractors. He further explained that the luggage vans were outsourced through a transparent bidding process, and all tenders were advertised publicly.
