Pakistan has moved forward with plans to expand e-passport facilities for overseas Pakistanis, with authorities reviewing measures aimed at making passport services more accessible and efficient for citizens living abroad.
A high-level meeting of senior officials was held under the chairmanship of Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa to review the department’s performance, ongoing projects and proposed reforms.
Officials briefed the meeting on the advanced security features incorporated into Pakistan’s e-passport system, including measures designed in line with international security standards. The meeting also examined progress on the planned expansion of e-passport services for Pakistanis residing overseas.
Participants discussed various steps to simplify access to e-passport facilities for overseas citizens and improve the application and issuance process. The proposed measures are aimed at making the system more efficient, transparent and user-friendly.
DG Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed officials to accelerate the department’s digital transformation and improve the overall delivery of passport-related services.
He also instructed relevant officials to give priority to legal and policy reforms and assigned specific responsibilities for advancing different initiatives.
Randhawa directed that all projects and reforms be completed within the stipulated timelines and in an effective and results-oriented manner, with particular focus on facilitating overseas Pakistanis in obtaining passport services.
The planned expansion is expected to further modernise Pakistan’s passport system and provide overseas citizens with easier access to digital and e-passport services.
