On which OTT platfom will Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ release?

LOS ANGELES: Following its highly anticipated global premiere, Christopher Nolan’s mythic action epic The Odyssey has officially launched exclusively in theaters.

True to the director’s fierce advocacy for the traditional cinematic experience, Universal Pictures has held back on locking down an official digital or OTT streaming release date, ensuring the star-studded blockbuster commands an extended, exclusive run on premium large formats and IMAX screens.

While a direct-to-streaming debut is off the table, industry distribution models and Universal’s existing network partnerships give us a clear blueprint of where the film will stream globally once its theatrical window closes.

The Global Streaming Blueprint

United States

First Window (Peacock): As a Universal Pictures property, The Odyssey will make its subscription streaming debut on Peacock. While standard studio releases typically transition to the platform within 45 to 60 days, industry analysts expect Universal to deploy an elongated theatrical strategy similar to Oppenheimer. A Peacock premiere is projected for late 2026 or early 2027.

Second Window (Netflix): Under a major multi-year licensing agreement, Netflix holds the “Pay-1” window rights for Universal’s live-action slate. The Odyssey will move exclusively to Netflix for a 10-month window following its Peacock run, putting its estimated arrival around mid-2027.

United Kingdom

Sky Cinema / NOW: British audiences can expect the film to land on Sky Cinema and its streaming counterpart, NOW. Universal titles traditionally transition to the platform roughly eight months post-theatrical premiere, targeting a streaming release in March or April 2027.

India

JioHotstar: Indian audiences received an early taste of the epic when a special 30-minute companion documentary, The Odyssey: The Making of an Epic, premiered on JioHotstar on July 14, 2026. While the main feature film’s official streaming date remains unconfirmed, JioHotstar is slated as the exclusive digital home for the blockbuster upon its Indian OTT release.

Viewing Alternative: For viewers looking to watch the film at home ahead of its subscription streaming debut, The Odyssey will follow standard industry patterns by hitting premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) platforms—including Apple TV, Prime Video, and the Google Play Store—for digital rental and purchase a few weeks prior to its Peacock rollout.
