Netflix has been creating hundreds of original TV series since 2013 so did it cancel dozens of those shows, often after just one or two seasons.
A lot of times, Netflix gets it right when it comes to which shows to keep around and which ones to axe. However, there’s also been many occasions where they cancel a popular or critically acclaimed series, leaving fans devastated. So below is a list of original TV shows that Netflix has got rid of this year:
1) Space Force
Steve Carell starrer ‘Space Force’ is a workplace comedy inspired by the Trump administration’s creation of the sixth branch of the U.S Armed Forces. The series was first released in 2020 and another season was dropped this year. Now, it has been decided that Netflix will not opt out of renewing the show for another season.
2) Cooking With Paris
Netflix’s culinary reality show Cooking with Paris saw actress and heiress Paris Hilton recreate recipes alongside celebrity guests such as Kim Kardashian, Saweetie, and Demi Lovato. The show has been canceled after just one season due to its low viewership and poor critic reviews.
3) Archive 81
Based on the 2016 podcast of the same name, Archive 81, it was released in January 2022, the eight-episode series was canceled just two months later. The news came as a surprise, especially since Archive 81 was watched for almost 130 million hours, breaking into Nielsen and Netflix’s Top 10 ratings.
4) Raising Dion
Raising Dion revolves around widow Nicole Warren (Alisha Wainwright)’s journey to raise and protect her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young), as he begins to exhibit superhuman abilities. Based on Dennis Liu’s 2015 comic book of the same name, the superhero series has been canceled by the online streaming platform.
5) Pretty Smart
Pretty Smart focuses on book-smart Chelsea, who is forced to move in with her free-spirited sister Claire who there meets Claire’s roommates. After premiering in October 2021, the one-season Pretty Smart was canceled in April 2022. Pretty Smart’s cancelation might be due to its mixed critical and audience reviews.
