KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday announced to increase the power tariff for Karachi by Rs4.88 per unit.
According to an official notification, NEPRA issued a tariff adjustment decision for K-Electric (KE) which allows them to collect Rs106 billion from electricity consumers incurred for the last four years.
The electricity rate has been increased to Rs4.88 per unit. The current per-unit price of electricity will be increased to Rs 17.69 from the previous 12.81 per unit.
NEPRA has issued the decision for the period from July 2016 to March 2019. The tariff surge would be placing an extra burden of Rs18 billion on power consumers in Karachi.
Yesterday, NEPRA approved an Rs1.56 per unit increase in power tariff on account of fuel cost adjustment of electricity consumed in October.
