Nawaz Sharif’s return

Nothing can be ruled out in Pakistan’s politics. These days, rumors are circulating regarding the repatriation of Nawaz Sharif, a top PML-N leader. Rana Sanaullah says fear of Nawaz Sharif’s return has made the government restless.

Islamabad’s rumor mills have even pointed out all the ways for Nawaz Sharif to return home and power. It is rumored that Nawaz Sharif is returning home from London next month. It is also rumoured that former Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has arrived in the UK to accompany Nawaz Sharif to his return home.

Many believe a deal has been reached with the PML-N establishment. On his return home, Nawaz Sharif will be kept in Kot Lakhpat Jail and all the cases will be disposed against him. Appeals will be filed in the high courts against the pending cases and convictions. Later, relief will be given to Nawaz Sharif through the court and he will be allowed to contest elections.

On the other hand, senior journalists say that no deal has been reached yet and Nawaz Sharif will not return home in the near future. There is no direct link between Nawaz Sharif and the Establishment. However, some observers are constantly making predictions and speculations regarding the bright future of Nawaz Sharif.

Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has said that if former prime minister Nawaz Sharif wants to come to Pakistan, he will be issued a visa in 24 hours and ‘I will pay the ticket money from my own pocket’. On other hand, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry says that he will never come back and the government is working with the UK to legislate on the issue.

Nawaz Sharif had left for London for 8 weeks in November 2019 on the pretext of serious illness. However, since then, he has been staying in the UK. Moreover, just after his arrival abroad, he had been constantly seen healthy and active in viral pictures.

The PML-N on the one hand talks of respecting the vote and on the other hand is more interested in settling issues behind the scenes. Everyone including Nawaz Sharif has the right to participate in politics. He should return home and face the cases and if he gets relief from the courts then he must play role in politics. Else, slogans like ‘respect the vote ‘ will be chanted against the PML-N.
